Racer Spotlight : Jason Foy

Here is the first of many.  We are starting a Racer Spotlight at events we attend.  No special requirements and no special talents are needed, only their love for bikes and the sport.  Pro, Expert, Sport, Beginner doesn’t matter as long as a number is strapped to the front of their bike.  Its not even required to be on the podium to be in this spotlight.  Its a chance for racers to show off their skills, and ambitions to the masses.  Also lets them give thanks to their sponsors.  This one is from the latest SRC race in Fontana.  So please welcome our first Racer Spotlight : Jason Foy…

Jason Foy

1 – Age      36

2 – Class   CAT1 (expert)

3 – Disipline (DH,4X,SD….)    DH

4 – Sponsors

Gravity Pirates Racing (Schwalbe Tires, Nema, Marzocchi, ISOTune Suspension, Baja Designs) Mongoose Tribe, Division 26, Azonic, SPY Optics, ODI, MRP, GoPro cameras and SDG seats

5 – What were 2010’s achievements

2010 started out well with a 2nd at Southridge Winter Series #2, But I broke my fork at Angel Fire MSC #2 and was out for 6 weeks for repairs. First race back was Crankworks CO, GRT #4, Got an 8th there, and then a 1st at the Predators Come out at Night DH race at Fontana. They just announced a 3 race night series for 2011. I’m looking forward to that.

6 – Short term goals for 2011

So far, 2011 is starting off to be one of the best seasons I have had in my 12 year DH career. My short term goal is to get the Southridge Winter Series Title for my age group. I won the first 2 races and a second in #3. The last two races are double points, so it’s still anyone’s game.

7 – Long term goals for 2011

Off the bike, Possibly moving my family from Colorado, back to SoCal. On the bike, I would like to do as many of the Mountain States Cup races as I can, Crankworx CO, and put our Baja Designs lights to the test at one of the Red Bull 12 HR dh races. Either at Winter Park, or Angel Fire. Also, if things continue to go well, I’ll make the move to Vet Pro for the Fontana races.

8 – Bike and setup

My bike is rather unassuming 2009 Mongoose Boot’r Team medium with an ISOtuned Vivid 5.1, Boxxer Team (soon to be a Marzocchi 888 EVO) ODI extreme lock-on grips, MRP G2 chain guide, Azonic wheels and pedals, SDG Comp Ti, and Schwalbe Muddy Mary 2.5 tires

9 – Favorite parts

My favorite part on my bike has to be my seat. It is an SDG Comp Ti, and it is 10 years old! It’s been on 4 different DH bikes over the years. It doesn’t match my bike, and is torn an tattered. But it is MY seat, and fits my ass just right.

10 – Any special thanks you want to give

First I have to thanks My wife, Carrie and kids Makayla (14), Milani (8), and Jaron(7) for all their support, even though they think I’m just a big kid. Steve, Travis and Matt with Gravity Pirates Racing for putting together a great team package from scratch. Dale with Division 26 and Mongoose Tribe. I would also like to thank all my riding buddies from CO and CA. And lastly Thank you Ian for this opportunity.
